Based on research in Scotland and Nova Scotia, the papers in this collection focus on a number of interconnected themes, including language ideologies and affective stances about what it means to be a Gaelic speaker, media discourses of Gaelic language death and revitalization, the intersection of neoliberalism and minority language revitalization, the theoretical frameworks of Reversing Language Shift (RLS) and communities of practice as they apply to Gaelic language revitalization efforts, and issues of power and knowledge in research and representation of Gaelic communities. About the Author
McEwan-Fujita, Emily: - Dr. Emily McEwan-Fujita has been involved with Scottish Gaelic language and culture for over 30 years. She earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and has taught linguistic and cultural anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, Loyola University Chicago, University of Pittsburgh, and Saint Mary's University. A former editor of the Small Languages and Small Language Communities section of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language, Dr. McEwan-Fujita now lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
